We were taken to tate to experience a wide range of art, not just photography. As practitioners it is important for you to expose yourself to a range of contextual references dealing with a mixture of cultural, political and environmental issues as we were told on the task sheet.
What i liked Gerhard Richter - Cage - 2006: About his paints was how he layered colour after colour on top of each other with each colour doing more line or stronger brushstrokes from one another. Using music he was listening to of john cage to ctrates paints that show the rhythm and beat of the song he was listening too at the time, showing how he hears the song through his paintings.
What i disliked was Mark Rothko - Black on Maroon - 1958: Because his work is supposed to represent that he saw these paintings as objects of contemplation, demanding the viewer’s complete absorption. But i didn't feel absorbed by his paintings because it didn't really tell a story, when i looked at art work i want to have a  idea on how its speaking to me but the only thing i could see from the his paintings was house windows which isn't exciting.
What challenged me was Dora Maar exhibition because of how she used both photography and surrealism together to create an weird expression of how she explored her own version of the unconscious mind. Wide range of combining experimental photographic and different printmaking techniques.
What told a story was Edward Ruscha - Whiskey A-Go-Go (Sunset Strip Portfolio)The places depicted in these photos were from a famous location within Los Angeles nightclub Whiskey A-Go-Go. I like the use of black and white mixed in with the lines slowly wiping away the image, each line contrasting with each other to show that these look like they were left out in the rain somewhere and are slowly being washed away and will slow not exist anymore.
